What to Expect After Porcelain Veneer Placement

You did it! You finally got the dream smile you’ve always with the help of porcelain veneers. You can’t stop smiling and with good reason. Here at My Dental Clinic in Southwest Calgary, AB, our main goal is to see you proud of your smile. Now that you finally have your veneers, though, you may be asking what preventative care you can maintain your new set of pearly whites. In this article, we will discuss a few things that can keep your new smile healthy, shiny, and bright for a long time to come.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

In order to know for certain, the longevity of your veneers lies in two important factors – the materials used and how well you care for them. In general, they should last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Communicating with your dentist about the material that will last the longest and look the most natural is key to getting your veneers to last. The following list includes ways to ensure longevity even further:

  • Brush and floss teeth daily
  • Visit the dentist at least twice a year
  • Don’t use your teeth as tools to open packages
  • Don’t chew on hard objects
  • Wear a night guard
  • Wear a sports guard

Will My Veneers Stain?

Again, depending on the quality of porcelain will determine whether your veneers are stain resistant or not. Thankfully, if you do opt for a stain resistant veneer, you’ll get to drink all the coffee, tea and wine you want!

Do I Need to Replace Porcelain Veneers?

It is a possibility that you will need to replace a porcelain veneer. At checkups, your dentist will check for chips or cracks. In the case that the damage isn’t severe, a veneer can be repaired, but in the case that the damage is too severe, an entire replacement may be needed.
